US President Donald Trump has instructed law enforcement agencies to take decisive action to suppress protests against immigration raids in Los Angeles and to remove all people who are in the country illegally. He published the statement on his social media platform Truth Social.
“The once-great American city of Los Angeles has been taken over and occupied by illegals and criminals,” Trump wrote, accusing the protesters of “violent riots” and “attacks on federal law enforcement officers”. The president called the situation “lawless rioting”, which, he said, only strengthens the administration’s resolve to restore order.
Trump has instructed Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem, Defence Secretary Pete Hagel and Attorney General Pam Bondi to take all necessary measures to “free Los Angeles from the migrant invasion”.
“Order will be restored, illegal immigrants will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be liberated,” Trump concluded.
Anti-immigrant rhetoric and a forceful approach to solving the migration crisis have become one of the key themes of Trump’s presidency since his return to the White House.
