Donald Trump, the Republican candidate in the US presidential election on 5 November, has once again told his supporters that the only way he could be defeated in the upcoming election is through fraud. This is reported by DPA.
This rhetoric is reminiscent of Trump’s statements four years ago, when he was defeated by Joe Biden, and despite the official results, many of Trump’s supporters still refuse to accept this defeat. “The only reason we can lose is because of theft,” Trump said during a speech in Arizona. He also said that he is currently ahead of his opponent in each of the seven key states that could decide the outcome of the election.
In an interview with right-wing journalist Tucker Carlson, Trump claimed that several attempts at election fraud had already been detected. However, the former president did not provide any evidence to support his words.
Moreover, according to the Washington Post, early voting shows a significant advantage for Kamala Harris among those who have already cast their vote. According to the latest national polls, she is ahead of Trump by 19-29 percentage points. While these figures are lower than Biden’s support in the early polls in 2020, they are still higher than Hillary Clinton’s in 2016.
Overall, polls show that the current battle between the candidates is very tight, with both having roughly equal chances of winning. After his defeat in 2020, Trump challenged the results by filing dozens of lawsuits, none of which were successful. His claims of a “stolen victory” provoked the events of 6 January 2021, when his supporters stormed the Capitol.
Trump continues to emphasise his success and question the integrity of the election, which only increases tensions among his supporters and adds drama to the US election campaign.
