US President Donald Trump has announced that negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine are already underway. He said this during a press conference in the Oval Office of the White House on Friday, 31 January.
“I’ll talk to Putin and I think we can probably do something significant,” Trump said.
According to him, he is actively discussing with the Russian side possible steps to end the war in Ukraine. However, the US president did not provide any details on the terms or format of the talks.
This statement provoked a mixed reaction among Ukraine’s international partners, as any negotiations on the war without Kyiv’s participation could be contrary to the interests of the Ukrainian side.
It is expected that the White House will soon clarify the US position on possible agreements with the Kremlin.
