US President Donald Trump has said he will sign a bill on powerful new sanctions against Russia if the Kremlin does not show willingness to move towards a peace agreement with Ukraine. He said this in an interview with NBC News, commenting on the initiative of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
“It depends on whether Russia moves towards peace. We want Russia and Ukraine to reach an agreement. We’re pretty close to that – it will save lives and save a lot of money,” Trump said.
He stressed that the financial burden of the conflict falls not only on the United States, but also on Europe, for which, in his opinion, this issue is even more important.
Trump also criticised former President Joe Biden, accusing him of uncontrolled allocation of funds to help Ukraine.
“Biden didn’t control anything. He was just sending money, and no one knew why, to whom, or for what purpose,” the White House chief said.
Lindsey Graham’s bill is expected to provide for “economic destruction” for Russia’s financial and energy sectors if there is no progress in the negotiations.
