London is stepping up its military presence in the Middle East as the security situation in the region deteriorates. This was stated by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Reuters reports.

“We are moving assets to the region, including fighter jets, to support in case of unforeseen situations in the region,” the Prime Minister said.

The UK already has forces in the region as part of operations against militant threats in Syria and Iraq, but the Prime Minister’s spokesman said the new deployment is due to the escalation of the situation.

According to him, additional crews were ordered to prepare for deployment on Friday morning, when it became clear that the security risk was growing. Refuelling planes from British bases, as well as new fighter jets, have already deployed to the region.

The move comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East, particularly due to Iran’s actions, escalation in the Red Sea, and the threat from proxy groups.
