UK Secretary of State for International Development Anneliese Dodds has announced an additional £19 million in humanitarian aid for Gaza. This is stated in the message of the British Embassy in Israel.

Distribution of aid
Of this amount, £12 million will be allocated to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the World Food Programme (WFP). The aid is intended to provide food, shelter and medical support to the population affected by the harsh conditions that have worsened with the start of the winter season.

A further £7 million will be donated to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) appeal, which will provide basic needs for Palestinian refugees, including clean water and sanitation.

Humanitarian conference and visits
Anneliese Dodds, who is visiting Israel and the Palestinian territories, will take part in a humanitarian conference in Cairo on Wednesday. The aim of the meeting is to find real solutions to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

During his visit, Dodds also plans to visit a refugee camp in the West Bank, a community threatened with demolition, and meet with Israeli officials to discuss access to humanitarian aid and a long-term solution to the conflict.

Calls for a ceasefire and support for hostage families
The Minister stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza. She also stressed the importance of the release of hostages, including British citizens, and met with their families to assure them of London’s efforts to bring them home.

Dodds on the situation in Gaza
“The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. The people there are in desperate need of food, shelter and medical care, especially as winter sets in,” the minister said.

This contribution takes the UK’s total humanitarian aid to Gaza and the West Bank in 2024 to £99 million, helping more than half a million people to access healthcare and 284,000 to access clean water and sanitation.
