Ukraine’s main problem at the front: the US viewpoint

The war in Ukraine is gaining new momentum, and although the Ukrainian Defence Forces have received a significant amount of modern weapons from allies, the situation at the front remains difficult. The problem, according to US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, is not only the lack of necessary weapons systems, but also the importance of human resources and mobilisation, Time Ukraine Israel reports, citing News.online.

Mobilisation as a critical success factor

Jake Sullivan stressed that even the transfer of modern weapons, such as American tanks, F-16 fighters, as well as HIMARS and Patriot systems, did not bring about rapid and significant changes at the front. He noted that although US assistance is extremely important, it is not a panacea for all problems. In particular, the Russian army is still gradually advancing, and this shows that there is no direct link between the provision of modern weapons and their effectiveness on the battlefield.

Sullivan stressed that in order to see significant changes at the front, Ukraine needs to pay more attention to mobilising and increasing human resources. The United States believes that success on the battlefield will be impossible without a sufficient number of well-trained troops. In this regard, the Joe Biden administration is calling on Ukraine to do more to strengthen its position, including the importance of ensuring adequate mobilisation and training of troops.

Excluding weapons as a decisive factor

The US presidential adviser also noted that the late delivery of certain weapons systems, such as tanks or F-16 fighter jets, would not have had a significant impact on the developments at the front. “Did we see a difference after the tanks were delivered to Ukraine? Did we see a difference in the use of F-16s? We don’t think either of those systems are critical to this battle,” Sullivan said.

According to him, the importance of these systems cannot be underestimated, but it is human resources and Ukraine’s ability to mobilise its forces on the battlefield that will determine the further course of the conflict.

Conclusion: strategic mobilisation as a key to victory

Thus, the main problem identified in the US is mobilisation. The provision of powerful weapons is an important step, but without a sufficient number of trained and prepared soldiers, any technical achievements may not lead to significant results at the front. Ukraine needs to focus on strengthening its forces through effective mobilisation, as this is the key to winning the war.
