US Attorney General Pam Bondi said that a number of judges who ruled against the Donald Trump administration are biased and should be removed from office. She said this in an interview with Fox News, Reuters reports.

“Many judges should be removed. They can’t be impartial, they can’t be objective,” Bondi said during an interview on The Ingraham Angle.

The judiciary is in Trump’s sights

The Attorney General’s statement came amid an escalating conflict between the White House and the judiciary, which plays a key role in reviewing the legality of the president’s actions.

Bondi, who previously defended Trump during the 2020 impeachment trial, named specific judges who blocked the former president’s policies, including Ana Reyes, James Boasberg and Beryl Howell.

Boasberg, in particular, suspended Trump’s decision to deport migrants on the basis of emergency powers. That is why Trump had previously demanded his removal, which caused a sharp reaction from the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court protects independence of judges

US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts responded to the criticism by emphasising that dismissal of judges for their rulings is unacceptable:

“We don’t have Trump judges, Obama judges or Bush judges. We have an independent judiciary that provides equal justice for all,” Roberts said.

He reminded that in more than 200 years of US history, only 8 judges have been removed, and this happened only in cases of proven serious crimes.

What’s next?

Experts believe that Bondi’s statement is part of Trump’s broader strategy to prepare for a possible return to the White House in 2024. The Democratic Party, in turn, condemned her words, stressing the inadmissibility of political pressure on the judiciary.
