J.D. Vance warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Donald Trump’s criticism of him would only turn him against Kyiv.
In an interview with DailyMail.com and The National Pulse, US Vice President J.D. Vance said that Zelenskyy was receiving “bad advice” on how to interact with the new administration in Washington.
“The idea that Zelenskyy will force the president to change his position by criticising him in the media is disastrous. Anyone who knows Trump will tell you that this is the worst way to communicate,” Vance said.
Trump vs Zelenskyy: a diplomatic crisis?
The day before, Zelenskyy said that Trump was living in a “bubble of Russian disinformation”. These words came after the former US president called the Ukrainian leader a “dictator” in his speeches and insisted on the need for urgent elections in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy reacted sharply, stressing that he respects the American people but cannot agree with the false allegations.
Elections in Ukraine are “US policy”
Vance confirmed that Washington now insists on holding elections in Ukraine as a key condition for the government’s legitimacy.
“If the war is a struggle for democracy, why is Kyiv against the elections?” asked the US Vice President.
Kyiv is in a difficult position
Experts note that such statements could mark a turning point in relations between Kyiv and Washington. Trump is apparently determined to end the war as soon as possible, and the US administration is demanding concrete steps from Ukraine.
Will Kyiv be able to retain Washington’s strategic support? This question remains open.
