US Vice President J.D. Vance said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy must demonstrate readiness for peace talks in order to return to dialogue with the White House.
Vance said this in an interview, Time Ukraine Israel reports citing CNN.
“I think that if he would call and have a serious proposal on how he is going to participate in the process… We have talked to some of our allies, he needs to get serious about the details,” the vice president said.
He added that the US is already working with the Russians on certain aspects of the peace talks.
“Zelensky must take part in the peace process”
Vance also said that Zelenskyy is currently “demonstrating a clear unwillingness” to engage in the negotiation process, which, according to Donald Trump, is “the policy of the American people”.
“In the end, he has to take part in the peace process,” the US Vice President stressed.
Vance’s statements may indicate a change in Washington’s approach to the war in Ukraine and increased pressure on Kyiv to reach a diplomatic settlement.
