Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid and his Yesh Atid party have accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “going off the rails” and spreading dangerous conspiracy theories in an attempt to divert attention from corruption scandals in his environment.

This was reported by The Times of Israel.

“Netanyahu is spreading dangerous conspiracy theories”

Lapid’s criticism came after Netanyahu said on Twitter that there is a “state within a state” in the country that uses the judicial system against him.

Lapid called the statements an attempt to undermine the rule of law and distract the public from investigations into the prime minister’s inner circle.

“Netanyahu has completely lost control. He has gone off the rails. He’s spreading dangerous conspiracy theories, undermining the rule of law and disgracing Israel. He is in a panic. He knows that his inner circle is connected to foreign interests and that the truth will be revealed. This is not leadership – this is dangerous and shameful panic,” Yesh Atid said in a statement .

Allegations of pressure on the media

Earlier, Lapid also accused Netanyahu of a “planned and coordinated attack” on the Israeli media.

He made this statement at an emergency conference on freedom of speech at the Knesset State Control Committee, attended by journalists and media representatives.

According to Lapid, Netanyahu is trying to discredit the press in order to create an atmosphere of distrust and divert public attention from his own problems.

What’s next?

The scandals surrounding Netanyahu continue to gain momentum, and his opponents see his actions as signs of a loss of control over the situation. Given the growing pressure from the opposition and investigations into his entourage’s links to foreign financial flows, the political crisis in Israel could escalate further in the coming weeks.
