Israel has declared an air alert following the launch of a ballistic missile from Yemen. Sirens sounded in several regions, including Jerusalem, Modi’in and the Shfela area.
This was reported by the Voice of Israel.
IDF confirms attack
According to the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), alarms were activated after the threat was detected, and the military conducted an operation to intercept the missile.
“The rocket was neutralised before it crossed the Israeli border. All actions were carried out in accordance with security protocols,” the IDF press service said.
Security sources warn that more shelling is possible in the coming hours.
Houthis threaten new strikes on Tel Aviv
Yemen’s Ansar Allah (Houthis) group, supported by Iran, claimed responsibility for the missile launch. Representatives of the Houthis said that they were “starting actions in Tel Aviv” and called for the evacuation of the city.
The attack was a response to Israeli strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.
US urges Israel not to retaliate
Washington has asked Israel not to retaliate. The US administration fears that the escalation between Israel and the Houthis could escalate into a broader conflict that would involve other countries in the region.
What’s next?
Israel is on high alert. Analysts predict that in the event of repeated missile attacks, the IDF may reconsider its tactics and launch a preemptive strike against the Houthis.
The attack also exacerbates the situation in the region, as the Houthis have repeatedly attacked US and Israeli targets in the Red Sea, forcing Washington and Tel Aviv to seek a new response strategy.
