The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, expressed concern about restrictions on the use of Western weapons against military facilities on the territory of Russia. In an interview with Le Monde, he noted that such restrictions could undermine Ukraine’s defense capabilities, as the army cannot effectively respond to shelling by Russian forces.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the ban on the use of Western weapons creates serious challenges for the Ukrainian military, which must stop the enemy. According to him, the Ukrainian side is trying to convince its partners to allow the use of the provided weapons to defend the territory, but Western countries are afraid of the escalation of the conflict.
The president noted that the restrictions on the part of the partners apply even to those situations when the Ukrainian army knows about the location of enemy military facilities, such as missile launchers or air defense systems, which strike Ukrainian cities.
Despite this, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine cannot violate agreements with partners, as this could lead to the termination of military aid from them. “We are puzzling over what to do, because if we use our partners’ weapons without their consent, they may say: ‘We will not give you anything else.’ This is a risk,” he said.
