On August 25, President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated that stopping the relentless attacks on Ukrainian cities is only possible by targeting the carriers of the weaponry used against them. He specifically referred to Russian aircraft launching missiles and guided bombs from military airfields, emphasizing that strikes on these aircraft are the key to halting the aggression that has continued for two and a half years.
Zelensky also provided grim statistics: since the full-scale invasion began, Russian forces have fired approximately 10,000 missiles of various types and over 33,000 guided bombs (KABs) at Ukraine. These figures underscore the devastating scale of the attacks, which cause daily destruction and loss of life among civilians and extensive damage to infrastructure.
The President highlighted the valiant efforts of Ukraine’s Air Force and air defense systems to protect the skies over the country, but he stressed that achieving complete air dominance requires counterstrikes on the source of these threats – the bases from which these deadly attacks are launched.

Zelensky’s remarks underscore Ukraine’s ongoing need for long-range strike capabilities and robust international partnerships to counter Russian aggression. While Ukraine’s defense forces have seen some success in repelling attacks, the demand for advanced technologies and more long-range weaponry remains critical to transforming defense into an effective counteroffensive.
This statement from the president also sends a message to the international community that, despite the heroism of Ukraine’s defenders, continued support is essential, particularly in securing Ukraine’s airspace from Russian terror.
