Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reacted sharply to Donald Trump’s statements calling him “incompetent” and a “weak negotiator”. Speaking at a press conference, the Ukrainian leader said that the former US president “lives in a space of disinformation” spread by Russia and its allies, The Guardian reports.

Trump and Zelenskyy’s ratings
Trump said that Zelenskyy’s popularity had dropped to 4%, but according to the Ukrainian president, recent polls show a 58% approval rating. “If someone wants to replace me right now, it won’t work,” he stressed.

Disinformation and Russian influence
Zelenskyy expressed concern that fake news from Russia was reaching the United States, shaping the opinions of Trump’s entourage, which, according to him, also includes representatives of the governments of Hungary and Slovakia.

Is the US helping Russia to break out of isolation?
The President of Ukraine also said that the United States is actually “helping Putin to get out of isolation”. He criticised the US-Russian talks, which are taking place without Ukraine’s participation, and the fact that Washington is beginning to refer to the war as a “conflict” in its official rhetoric, which is beneficial to the Kremlin.

Zelensky calls on the US not to downplay Russian aggression
“We are defending the rights of Ukraine, and we need to call a spade a spade,” Zelenskyy said, stressing that Russia is trying to look like a victim, which is a dangerous trend.
