The Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine owns a real treasure – a unique Torah Crown created in 1875 in a workshop in Zhytomyr. This work of art impresses not only with its history but also with its majesty: at 66 cm high, it is the largest crown of its kind in Europe. Made of high quality silver, it fascinates with its lush chiselled floral ornaments, delicate openwork overlays, sculptural figures and the gentle tinkling of small bells that adorn it.
Particular attention is drawn to the engraved Hebrew inscription on the interceptor between the tiers: “Dod, son of Yehoshua Halevi, thanks Krana, daughter of Jonah Hinda”. Historians suggest that the newlyweds presented this crown to the synagogue as a token of gratitude and as a symbol of their marriage. Its uniqueness also lies in the fact that no analogue of this masterpiece has been discovered to date, making it an invaluable testament to the craftsmanship and traditions of the past.
