Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, announced that UN Secretary-General António Guterres has been declared persona non grata and barred from entering Israel, according to Haaretz. This decision follows Guterres’ remarks regarding the latest missile strike by Iran on Israeli territory.
“Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn the horrific attack on Israel does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil,” Katz stated. He further accused the UN chief of failing to condemn the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7 and aligning with terrorist organizations.
The UN Secretary-General had previously called for a ceasefire in the Middle East, drawing ire from the Israeli government. Tensions between Israel and the UN remain high amid the ongoing conflict.
