Stoltenberg: decisions on Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles inside Russia rest with individual allies

Єнс Столтенберг

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Monday that decisions regarding Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles against targets inside Russia must be made individually by each ally, Reuters reports.

“It is up to individual allies to make specific decisions on how their weapons can be used. Allies have different policies on this matter,” Stoltenberg stated during an interview with UK’s LBC radio.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been urging Western allies to provide long-range missiles that would allow Ukrainian forces to strike Russian military airfields and installations far behind the front lines, including on Russian soil. Discussions are ongoing about the potential authorization for Ukraine to use such missiles against targets in Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that any use of Western-supplied precision long-range missiles against targets within Russia would be viewed as NATO’s direct involvement in the conflict.
