Ukraine’s New Foreign Minister Urges Allies to Buy Ukrainian Weapons

Андрій Сибіга

Ukraine’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called on Kyiv’s international allies to support the country’s military by purchasing weapons from Ukrainian manufacturers. Sybiha made this appeal on Monday in a message posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

“The best way to increase military aid to Ukraine at this time is to buy weapons for Ukrainian fighters from Ukrainian manufacturers,” Sybiha wrote. He was appointed as Ukraine’s top diplomat last week.

The minister explained that this approach would provide additional funding to Ukraine’s defense industry, enabling it to expand production and accelerate the manufacturing of weapons. Sybiha also noted that purchasing Ukrainian-made arms is “faster and cheaper” for international partners.

“Some of our partners are already purchasing from Ukrainian manufacturers. We urge them to increase their investments, and we encourage others to follow suit,” Sybiha emphasized.

In April, Denmark became the first Ukrainian ally to announce that it would buy weapons from Ukrainian producers to supply Ukraine’s military. Kyiv hopes more countries will adopt this method of military support.

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration is working to double the national military production to reduce reliance on external military aid.
