Today, Ukraine has opened a new chapter of international support: the first meeting in the “Nordic Group-Ukraine” format brought together 12 European countries, including five Nordic countries – Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland – three Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania – as well as Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom. This new format is designed to strengthen regional security and coordinate support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression, Time Ukraine Israel reports, citing Rustem Umerov’s Facebook page.
The meeting, which was held in Denmark under the leadership of the country’s Minister of Defence, symbolised the beginning of close defence cooperation with Northern Europe. It is planned that the next summit in this format will be held in Ukraine, which underscores the partners’ desire for even deeper cooperation.
Realistic Plans and Urgent Needs
The meeting featured frank and constructive discussions on Ukraine’s needs, plans for 2025 and ways to implement them quickly. The main issues discussed were common threats, the provision of heavy equipment to the Ukrainian army and further investment in Ukraine’s defence industry. Particular attention was paid to the financing of domestic arms production. Following the example of the Danish model of financing the Ukrainian defence industry, countries such as Sweden, Norway, and Lithuania have already joined the project to invest in military production in Ukraine.
Allies were the first to support Ukraine
The members of the Northern Group are leaders in international support for Ukraine. They were among the first to provide Western-style battle tanks, long-range ammunition, air defence systems, and funding for Ukraine’s defence industry. They were also the first countries to agree to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.
Together with its partners in the Northern Group, Ukraine continues to strengthen its army, which brings the victory over the aggressor closer.
