One of the parts of this holiday is cleaning. Nothing should be left at home that is not leavened. To achieve this, I have created a guide for myself and for you.
CLEANING FOR PASSOVER
The optimal plan
Follow this step-by-step plan to minimise your efforts but still do everything by the book.
1. Planning ( 1-2 weeks before Passover)
✔ Determine which areas need to be thoroughly cleaned (kitchen, dining room, children’s rooms, bags, cars).
✔ Buy the necessary detergents, sponges, gloves, packaging for kosher Passover products.
✔ Start using chametz in your home, don’t buy too much.
2. Gradual cleaning (7-5 days before Passover)
Wipe down all surfaces, remove crumbs, vacuum furniture and carpets.
Check your clothing pockets, bags and backpacks for hametsu.
✔ Car: clean the glove compartment, cup holders, seats, trunk and floor mats.
Common areas (living room, bedrooms, corridors ):
✔ Check toys, books, drawers – remove crumbs and food debris.
Remove toys that children have eaten with during the year or wash them thoroughly.
Children’s rooms:
✔ Fridge and freezer – wash, remove the hammer, cover the shelves with foil.
✔ Oven and stove – clean from food residues, heat, cover with foil, seal (if you cannot cook).
✔ Countertops and cupboards – clean and cover with foil.
✔ Sink – treat with boiling water, put an overhead sink.
Dishes – remove non-kosher dishes, take out Pesach or disposable dishes.
Floors – vacuum and wash the entire apartment, including corners and under furniture.
3. The main stage – the kitchen (3-2 days before Passover)
→ This is the largest area, requiring special attention and thorough cleaning (see the previous point).
4. Final preparation (the day before Passover)
This year’s Shabbat before Passover
Thursday in the evening (12 Nisan): Conduct Bdikat Hametz (candlelight chametz).
Friday in the morning (13 Nisan): Burn the chametz, but leave some for the Shabbat meals.
Shabbat (14 Nisan):
– The first and second meals (Friday evening and Shabbat morning): eat bread, but finish no later than the end of 4 o’clock.
– Until the end of 5 o’clock: destroy the crumbs and cancel the remaining hamezu.
– Then only kosher food for Passover.
✔ Replace your toothbrushes and dishwashing sponges.
✔ Switch completely to kosher food for Passover.
Pesach samesh!
With such a plan, cleaning and preparing for the holiday will be step-by-step, without panic, but according to all the rules!
Prepare for the holiday easily and consciously!
