Despite the absence of rolling blackouts, energy providers are calling on Ukrainians to use electricity sparingly, especially during evening hours, according to a statement from Ukrenergo on Wednesday, September 18.

As of Wednesday morning, 522 towns and villages across eight regions of Ukraine remain fully or partially without power due to combat operations and other factors. The most affected regions include Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, and Kherson.

Attacks and Severe Weather Disrupt Power Supply

“Last night, enemy forces once again targeted an energy facility in Sumy region with drone attacks. A fire broke out, but emergency services managed to contain it. There were no new power outages, and residents of Sumy and surrounding areas who lost power the previous day have now been reconnected,” the statement reads.

In addition, six towns in Dnipropetrovsk region were left without power due to bad weather, while technical issues caused outages in certain parts of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.

Rising Consumption and Energy Imports

According to Ukrenergo, electricity consumption continues to rise, with Wednesday morning’s figures showing a 2.6% increase compared to Tuesday. Ukraine is currently importing electricity from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, and Moldova, with a total import volume of 17,732 MWh and a peak capacity of 1,510 MW at certain hours. There is no ongoing export of electricity.

Call for Energy Conservation

Energy providers urge citizens to refrain from using multiple high-power appliances simultaneously between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and to be mindful of their electricity use to help prevent grid overload.
