EU Claims “Credible Information” on Iranian Missile Deliveries to Russia

The European Union stated that its allies have “credible evidence” that Iran has supplied ballistic missiles to Russia. This was confirmed on Monday by European Commission spokesperson Peter Stano, as reported by AFP and Reuters.

“We are examining this issue with member states, and if confirmed, this delivery would mark a significant material escalation in Iran’s support for Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine,” Stano said.

He emphasized that the EU’s position remains clear: “The European Union will respond swiftly, in coordination with its international partners, including by introducing new and significant restrictive measures against Iran.”

The Kremlin has not denied the accusations that Iran is supplying missiles to Russia, noting that relations between Moscow and Tehran are guided by their mutual interests, particularly in “the most sensitive areas.”

“Such information is not always accurate. Iran is an important partner for us. We are developing trade and economic ties, as well as cooperation in all possible fields, including the most sensitive ones,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. has informed its European allies about Iran’s short-range missile deliveries to Russia during a period when Moscow intensified its attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Washington and Ukraine’s European allies have repeatedly warned that such deliveries would have serious consequences for Iran, a nation already under strict Western sanctions.

The U.S. and the EU have already imposed sanctions on Iranian drone manufacturers whose products were delivered to Russia. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Tehran has been supplying Moscow with Shahed drones.

Fazlollah Nozari, a representative of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, dismissed the reports of missile transfers as part of a “psychological war.”

Last Friday, the U.S. stated that any Iranian missile transfer to Russia would mark a major escalation in the war against Ukraine.
