EU has provided €118 billion in aid to Ukraine and continues to train thousands of soldiers – Dombrovskis

Валдіс Домбровскіс

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the European Union and its member states have provided €118 billion in aid. By the end of this year, EU countries are set to train an additional 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers, on top of the roughly 60,000 already trained. This was announced on Tuesday by European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis.

Speaking to the European Parliament, Dombrovskis emphasized that Russia’s aggression poses an “existential threat to European security architecture.” He warned that if Russia is not stopped, President Vladimir Putin may target other countries, including EU members.

Dombrovskis highlighted that the EU’s military and economic support to Ukraine continues, currently amounting to around €118 billion. He also pointed out that as part of its military aid to Kyiv, the EU is accelerating ammunition production, with a target of producing around 1.4 million 155mm shells by the end of the year.

In terms of military assistance, he noted that since 2022, EU member states have trained approximately 60,000 Ukrainian troops as part of the EUMAM mission, with training for an additional 15,000 soldiers ongoing.
