On Thursday, Oprah Winfrey showcased her immense influence by hosting a star-studded gala entirely dedicated to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Held in the critical battleground state of Michigan, the event was broadcast live across multiple online platforms, drawing millions of viewers and high-profile guests.
Winfrey brought together numerous celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Chris Rock, and others, who appeared via teleconference. The massive audience tuned in to the campaign talk-show “Unite for America” through YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitch.
Harris, who has previously received Winfrey’s support at the Democratic convention, called for unity in the face of “powerful forces seeking to divide us,” in reference to her rival, Donald Trump.
At the same time, Trump was speaking at a pro-Israel rally in Washington, accusing Harris of not sufficiently defending Israel. He stressed that it was crucial for Israel that Harris lose the election.
Throughout the event, Kamala Harris addressed key issues such as immigration, the cost of living, and abortion rights, in a favorable interview with Winfrey. In a touching moment, Harris embraced 15-year-old high schooler Natalie Griffith, who was severely injured in a school shooting.
Celebrities and activists expressed concerns about Trump’s potential refusal to accept the election results, similar to the events of January 6, 2021. Meryl Streep, for instance, warned that the country needs to be prepared for possible unrest following the election.
