US President Joe Biden has issued a statement commemorating the Holodomor, in which he underlined the historical tragedy of the Ukrainian people and assured of the United States’ continued support for Ukraine. The statement was released by the White House press service on Saturday, 23 November.
“We remember the victims of the Holodomor”
Joe Biden recalled the Holodomor as a catastrophe planned by the Soviet regime that claimed the lives of millions of Ukrainians and stressed the importance of remembering this tragedy.
“We remember the men, women and children who perished during the Holodomor. At the same time, we honour the survivors and their descendants who, despite Stalin’s attempts to destroy the Ukrainian national identity, built a free, independent, democratic Ukraine,” Biden said.
He added that in this difficult period, the United States stands with the Ukrainian people as they continue to fight for their freedom and dignity.
Support in the fight against Russian aggression
The US President reminded that Russia is waging a war of aggression against Ukraine, trying to destroy it as a sovereign state.
“Russia has failed in this. Kyiv remains free, and this was made possible by the United States and more than 50 countries that are providing Ukraine with the necessary assistance,” Biden said.
Promise to support Ukraine
In his statement, Biden reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continue to help Ukraine defend its freedom and pursue its Euro-Atlantic future.
“We support Ukraine in its fight for freedom, justice and its chosen path to Euro-Atlantic integration. The courage and strength of the Ukrainian people will prevail,” the US President stressed.
According to Biden, commemorating the Holodomor victims not only reminds us of the tragic pages of history, but also emphasises the importance of international solidarity in the fight against aggression and injustice.
